Depth is created by zooming in on an object and having the background of the composition in frame (shallow depth of field) It can also be created by adding colour and tone. If you start to add lighter colours to darker colours, the darker colours will look like they are behind and the lighter colours will look like they are coming forward.
The line of sight is a line from the observers line to the distant point.
I did some rough sketches, looking outside a window. I wanted to try and get a composition where there is a clear sense of depth. The close up of the roof top and the urban streets in the background works really well. As i was looking outside the window I was thinking I could perhaps include objects on the window seal as this will create some depth an shallow depth of field. I used my water bottle as the object and think it would work much better if I added some colour and tone perhaps?
So I started to build up a final composition where I have introduced some colours to create depth. I have also overlapped the images to also create depth with some of the darker colours looking as though they are coming forward but also as if they are in the distance. That's where I think I went wrong with this project - I didn't really have a clear vision of what I wanted to achieve compositionally and kind of stuck things down randomly. Because of this, the composition looks fairly confusing and chaotic, not knowing where to look. If i were to do it again I'd probably be more selective on where i put darker colours etc.
